Common use

Pimecrolimus is a topical immunomodulator used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema), especially when corticosteroids are not suitable. It reduces inflammation, redness, and itching by blocking the activation of T-cells in the skin. Pimecrolimus is particularly helpful for sensitive areas like the face and neck. It does not cause skin thinning, making it ideal for long-term intermittent use.

Dosage and direction

Apply a thin layer of pimecrolimus cream to the affected skin areas twice daily, usually in the morning and evening. Use it only on clean, dry skin and avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. Treatment should begin at the first signs of eczema flare and continue until the symptoms are resolved. Wash your hands after application unless treating your hands.

Precautions

Avoid use on infected or broken skin unless directed by a doctor. Sun exposure should be limited, as pimecrolimus may make the skin more sensitive to UV rays. Long-term safety has not been fully established, so use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration needed. Consult a doctor before use in children under 2 years of age.

Contraindications

Pimecrolimus is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. It should not be used in patients with active viral, bacterial, or fungal skin infections. Possible side effect

Drug interaction

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed one. Continue with your regular application schedule.

Overdose

Overdose with topical pimecrolimus is unlikely, but excessive use may increase the risk of side effects like skin irritation. Do not apply large amounts or use under occlusion unless advised by a healthcare provider. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately. Always use as directed to avoid complications.

Storage

Store the cream at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Do not freeze the medication. Keep it out of the reach of children and do not use it after the expiration date. Tightly close the tube after each use.
