Adapalene is a topical retinoid used primarily to treat acne vulgaris by reducing inflammation, unclogging pores, and preventing new breakouts. It promotes skin cell turnover and helps clear existing acne while preventing future lesions. Adapalene is often prescribed for mild to moderate acne and is available in various strengths and formulations, including creams, gels, and lotions. It may also help improve skin texture over time.

Dosage and direction

Adapalene is applied once daily, usually at bedtime, to clean, dry skin. A thin layer should be spread evenly over the entire affected area—not just individual pimples. Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and mucous membranes, and wash hands after application. Consistent use is important, although full improvement may take 8 to 12 weeks.

Precautions

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular routine. Do not apply extra medication to make up for a missed dose. Overuse may increase the risk of irritation without improving results.

Overdose

Applying more adapalene than prescribed will not speed up results and may cause increased redness, peeling, or discomfort. In case of accidental ingestion or extensive skin reaction, seek medical advice immediately. Do not apply to large body areas unless directed by a doctor. Use exactly as instructed to avoid complications.

Storage

Store adapalene at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep the container tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not freeze the product. Check expiration dates and do not use expired medication.
